Grandia ReDux is a hack that modifies many things in game. Character stats are greatly changed, skills are buffed/nerfed, equipment changed, new items/spells, and most importantly, the difficulty has been rebalanced to provide a more challenging game overall.
I had to record a fight against these enemies after I had a successful run killing them without recording on my first try. Also I had to have an excuse to mention how much pure awesome the Disc 2 normal battle theme is.
Anyways, Desert Lords. If you've played Grandia III, you would know that these things popped up not too far before you reach the point where the normal battle theme gets changed. They were nightmares and damn near impossible to kill at that point in the game unless you had a rock solid strategy for dealing with them.
Of course, Desert Lords in this game replace the Scissorlock enemy...and you have to fight 3 at once. Crap.
Oh yeah, they can easily one shot anyone in my team at this level. Double Crap.
They also have well over 7,000 HP and high Vit + high magic resists. None of my attacks will do much damage.
None except Rapp's Dethsword killer move. It'll instantly kill whatever it connects with...provided said target can be struck by instant death moves of course. Desert Lords just happen to be one of those monsters vulnerable to it.
Its SP cost though is 100 with a Tree God Amulet. That means you need everyone else to feed him Yellow Pills/Golden Potions in order to fuel Dethswords for long enough to wipe the trio out.
Considering how the trio of Desert Lords can one shot party members, how do you live long enough to kill them all?
Firstly, you need to hope that Rapp doesn't start out closest to the Desert Lords. If he does, reset and try again. If Justin starts out closest to them, excellent. He has his Immortal Aura skill that will block all incoming damage that he receives for a set amount of time. Higher +skill power will boost the duration of it.
As for everyone else...Guido should initially try to delay the Desert Lords' turns with a Mogay Bomb or two, then be focused on Golden Potion spammage.
Feena oughta boost defenses to start with. A high enough defense bonus will mean Justin and Rapp can take a hit and live...unless they use Crushing Fang in which case they'll still die in one hit.
After that, she's on healing/reviving duty/Golden Potion spammage the rest of the fight.
Now then, after Rapp drops one of the Desert Lords, you have more room for error. Two Desert Lords are still plenty capable of screwing you over, but at least you'll be better prepared for when they attack.
Everyone should be focused on using Golden Potions/Yellow Pills to bring Rapp's SP above 100 for another Dethsword. Wipe out another Desert Lord, rinse and repeat for the last one.
Now then, why even go through with this battle in the first place?
First, they drop boatloads of xp. Over 23k for 3 Desert Lords.
More importantly, I gave Rapp that Gil Sword for a reason.
Desert Lords have two things they can drop. Their common drop happens to be All-Around Seeds. Not bad at all.
However, the real good prize is their rare drop, Robe of the Sun. This is the best armor in the game for Feena & Liete, sporting a nice defense boost as well as speeding up spell casting. You would do well to get two of these if you can muster it.
Everything went about as well as I could have hoped for here. Kinda sucks that Feena's Resurrection I was casting in anticipation to bring back Rapp right after he got hit and killed by a Desert Lord actually went off before that killing hit connected, meaning it was wasted. Oh well, not too much of a big deal.
